About This Project

WHEN: ONE ARCHITECTURE WEEK 2015

The debate “The River” is part from One Architecture Week 2015, which subjectUn-common Riverfocuses on Maritsa River, but it went beyond the geographical boundaries of the city in order to provoke another way of thinking and attitude towards the river – as a border between nature and culture, north and south, “European” and “non-European”, private and public…

The issue concerning water and nature in urban environments is important not only to Plovdiv. In many cities around the world such spaces have been integrated into the city fabric; at the same time the ecosystem has been preserved, while turning the rivers into unique and emblematic public spaces. By choosing “The River” as the topic of the festival, One Architecture Week seeks to call public attention to the local problem, to provide notable examples from different parts of the world and initiate interventions that show the potential of the river to become an attractive and valuable public space.

Participants in the debate are the festival’s director Ljubo Georgiev, the curators of the 2014 edition dontDIY and the curator of the One Architecture Week in 2015, Merve Bedir.
